Activity 3: Present Perfect

The Structure:

The Present Perfect is formed using the present tense of the auxiliary verb ‘have' (have/has) followed by the past participle of the main verb.

• For regular verbs, the past participle is the same as the past simple (e.g., walked, watched).
• For irregular verbs, the past participle can be quite different (e.g., written, driven).

Formulas:

• Affirmative Sentences: Subject + has/have + past participle
  • Example: She has finished her homework.
• Negative Sentences: Subject + has/have + not + past participle
  • Example: They have not (haven't) seen that movie yet.
• Interrogative Sentences: Has/Have + subject + past participle?
  • Example: Have you ever been to Paris?

Usages:

1. Actions Completed in the Recent Past:
   • Example: I have just cleaned my room.
2. Experiences at an Undisclosed Time:
   • Example: She has visited the Eiffel Tower.
3. Past Actions with Present Consequences:
   • Example: He has lost his keys (and now he can’t enter the house).
4. With Time Expressions:
   • Such expressions can include “already,” “yet,” “ever,” “never,” “for,” “since,” and “just.”
