Activity 2: “Going to” + base verb: For planned actions and intentions, or when there’s evidence that something will happen.

Time-traveling cadets, prepare to chart your course with pinpoint accuracy! When outlining plans and intentions—or when the writing’s on the wall for future events—’going to’ is your roadmap to destiny. 🗺️ It’s like setting a GPS for your future self.

Crafting Your Future Blueprint with ‘Going to’:

Planned Actions: Just like marking your calendar, ‘going to’ signals clear plans and intentions for what lies ahead. 📅 Example: “I’m going to visit my grandparents next weekend.”
Predictions with Evidence: When there's solid proof or a clear sign pointing to a future occurrence, ‘going to’ is your forecasting friend. âš¡ Example: “The sky is pitch black. It’s going to storm soon.”

The Navigator's Toolkit:

  • Structure: Subject + be (am/is/are) + going to + base verb
  • Be aware of your subject! ‘Am’ pairs with ‘I’, ‘is’ pairs with ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’, and ‘are’ goes with ‘you’, ‘we’, ‘they’.

Example:

  • Prompt: The meeting agenda is set, and everyone has confirmed their attendance for next week. (discuss)
  • Response: “We are going to discuss the new project next week.”
  • Explanation: The prompt shows a plan is in place (the meeting agenda and confirmed attendance), so we use “are going to discuss” to express the intention for the upcoming week.
