Activity 1: Present Simple
Welcome to the world of Present Simple, the tense that captures routines, habits, and timeless truths.
The Present Simple is your go-to tense for situations that are not changing—think habits, schedules, and statements of fact.
When to Use:
- Habits and Routines: Actions done regularly (often paired with adverbs of frequency).
- She walks to school every day.
- General Truths & Facts: Statements that are always true.
- Water boils at 100°C.
- Scheduled Events: Planned events or timetables (often used for public transport or events).
- The train leaves at 9 pm.
- States: Situations that don’t tend to change quickly (love, need, want).
- He loves reading historical novels.
Rules:
- Add ‘-s’ or ‘-es’ for third person singular (he, she, it).
- He likes coffee. She goes to the gym.
- Use the base form of the verb for all other subjects (I, you, we, they).
- I like coffee. We go to the gym.

Example Question and Answer
Question: Fill in the blank with the correct form of the verb in brackets: The sun ______ in the east. (rise)
Answer: The sun rises in the east.
Explanation: we use “rises” to describe a habitual or repeated action. In this case, it refers to the regular occurrence of the sun moving upward in the sky from the eastern horizon. This statement describes a fact that is generally true and does not specify a particular time or date.
Fill in the blanks using the correct form of the verb in brackets. Begin with simpler constructions and move towards sentences that require consideration of subjects and time expressions.
