The Present Simple is your go-to tense for situations that are not changing—think habits, schedules, and statements of fact.

When to Use:

  1. Habits and Routines: Actions done regularly (often paired with adverbs of frequency).
    • She walks to school every day.
  2. General Truths & Facts: Statements that are always true.
    • Water boils at 100°C.
  3. Scheduled Events: Planned events or timetables (often used for public transport or events).
    • The train leaves at 9 pm.
  4. States: Situations that don’t tend to change quickly (love, need, want).
    • He loves reading historical novels.

Rules:

  • Add ‘-s’ or ‘-es’ for third person singular (he, she, it).
    • He likes coffee. She goes to the gym.
  • Use the base form of the verb for all other subjects (I, you, we, they).
    • I like coffee. We go to the gym.
