Practice 8 – SW

Your Task
Imagine you are Tan Wei Lin from Secondary 2B. Write a proposal to the school librarian, Mrs. Lee, concerning the issues observed in the library during lunchtime. You are to refer to the illustrations and information on page 2 for your proposal.
In your proposal, include the following key information:
- Introduce yourself and clarify the purpose of your proposal.
- Explain the ongoing issues in the library, especially during lunchtime.
- Describe how the issues are affecting the students and the library environment.
- Offer your suggestions for improving the library’s condition and encouraging students to respect library property.
- Discuss the potential benefits of your suggested improvements for the school community.
You may reorder the points. Remember to write in complete sentences.
Script:
Boy: Have you seen how chaotic the library gets during lunchtime? Books are left all over
the tables, and it’s impossible to study.
Girl: Definitely, and it’s not just disorganized; some of these books are damaged because
they’re not put back on the shelves properly. It looks like nobody’s respecting library
property. Girl: I was thinking we could propose a new ‘Respect Your Library’ initiative. We
need to remind everyone to treat the books and the library space with care.
Boy: Absolutely. We should also report this to the school librarian. Maybe students need
clearer guidelines or even a library orientation session.
Girl: True. And we could encourage a ‘book buddy’ system, where older students help the
younger ones learn about proper library etiquette.
Boy: That’s a great idea. Educating one another could build a better library community. It’s
all about respecting resources and sharing the space responsibly.
Girl: Plus, we can propose setting up clear signs reminding students to handle books with
care and to return them to the correct place after use.
