In your speech, include the following information:
- Initial expectations of the beach cleanup
- Surprises you encountered regarding the impact of waste on the environment
- A memorable encounter during the event and what it signified
- Insights and feelings about the environment based on the event
- Reasons why you think others should get involved in such initiatives
You may reorder the points. Remember to write in complete sentences.
SCRIPT:
Coordinator: Hey, Sarah! How did the beach cleanup event go last Saturday?
Student: It was amazing! I went with some of my friends from the environmental club. To be
honest, I thought it would just be picking up trash, but it turned out to be much more
rewarding. I was astounded by how much we could help the environment in just a few hours!
We found all sorts of things, from plastic bottles to old tires, and it made me realize how our
actions directly affect the ocean.
Coordinator: Was there a particular moment that stood out to you during the cleanup?
Student: Absolutely! At one point, I found a small crab tangled in plastic netting. Carefully, I
removed the netting and released the crab back to the sea. It was a poignant reminder of
why we were there. It's not just about cleaning; it’s about saving the lives that inhabit the
seas.
Coordinator: It seems like you gained a lot from this experience. I think it would be great if
you could share this with the rest of the school during assembly. What do you think?
Student: And, oh! There was this kid, about seven years old, who came up to me. He held
up a plastic straw and told me how he learned in school that straws hurt turtles. His eyes
were full of determination. At that moment, I felt hopeful for the future and proud that our
efforts were raising awareness even in the younger generation.
Student: I’d love to, Ms. Carter! The more we can spread the word, the better!
