Section B: Situational Writing

You are advised to write a speech between 180 and 250 words for this section.

You should study the information on the insert carefully and plan your answer before starting to write.

You’ve recently stumbled upon a website run by the organization Earn and Save, which is aimed at encouraging kids to manage their finances more effectively. You’ve also had an engaging conversation with an adviser from Earn and Save to gain more insights into the kind of advice they offer to children. You found the conversation to be extremely enlightening. Now, your teacher has asked you to share this wisdom with your classmates through a talk.

Compose the content of your talk, making sure to include:

– The reasons why you believe having a conversation with the adviser was a positive move

– Which advice you found particularly useful and why

– Your savings goals and your strategy to achieve them

– How you think your classmates might benefit from the advice provided by Earn and Save

You are welcome to include any other particulars that might support your application.

Your talk should be in clear, correct English, and should be given in a lively and enthusiastic manner to keep your classmates interested. Start your talk with: “Good morning, everyone…”. And remember to conclude it appropriately.

Please try to articulate your thoughts using your own words.

HEY, KIDS! WANT TO LEARN HOW TO EARN AND SAVE? CONTINUE READING!

We understand kids love their toys and games. We realize most of their pocket money is spent on toys, video games, candy, and of course, the occasional ice cream treat. We acknowledge that they often find their pocket money vanishing before they know it.

At Earn and Save, we can teach even the tiniest savings to grow into a big pile.

Kids, ask yourselves, do you:

  • want to keep up with your pals’ latest toys?
  • desire to have the trendiest games?
  • often acquire things you don’t genuinely need?
  • sometimes spend all your money too quickly?

We can guide you on:

  • how to make wise decisions with your pocket money.
  • how to enjoy fun games without buying expensive branded toys.
  • where to have fun in Singapore without spending a dime.
  • how to monitor your spending habits.
  • how to save up for that special toy or event.

We’re a non-profit organization devoted to supporting children. Our advisors are young, friendly and relatable.
